Could you grow your online sales without more content? That was the question Neil Patel asked himself in 2017 until he ultimately decided to purchase Ubersuggest on Feb 13th, 2017. Ubersuggest was then called Ubersuggest.io and the previous owner got paid $120,000 to part with it.

Ubersuggest is one of my favorite keyword research tools and I am currently a paying customer. This post provided a full review of Ubersuggest and comparison with other tools such as Ahref, SEM Rush, Google Keyword Planner, and others.

By the time it was sold, it had 117,425 visitors per month but had accumulated around 38,700 backlinks according to this blog post by Neil Patel who currently owns the tool along with Subcriber.com and NP Digital.

Neil is a renowned SEO expert and has developed several tools over the years. Some tools such as Kissmetrics and Quick Sprouts are now managed by new owners but Neil Patel’s latest tool, Ubersuggest is gaining thousands of users.

Ubersuggest has evolved from the Ubersuggest 2.0 to the current Ubersuggest 7.0 which has improved to provide more metrics. Initially, the tool offered keyword research data.

Just a few days to its 3rd Anniversary under the ownership of Neil Patel, it is now a paid tool. If you enter a domain name to explore competition, you’ll be asked to upgrade to access additional data including historical data as shown in the snapshot below:

Ubersuggest vs Ahrefs

Ubersuggest and Ahref are both sophisticated keyword and SEO research tools you can leverage to rank high on search engines.

UbersuggestAhref
It has a free plan with limited functionality. Ubersuggest was free for 3 years until early 2020.It does not have a free plan but there are some free tools such as the Ahref Backlink checker that I often use. Ahref has a free trial for only $7 per month

Ubersuggest is a web application and does not have a Chrome extension.

On March 26, 2020, Neil Patel sent out an email to Ubersuggest users indicating that Ubersuggest’s Chrome Extension is now available. Neil wrote a blog about it here and below is the email introducing Ubersuggest Chrome Extension:

Ubersuggest Keyword Difficulty

Ubersuggest Keyword Difficulty/SEO DifficultyYou can use Ubersuggest to know the Keyword Difficulty of any keyword you are looking to rank for. On the Ubersuggest tool, they call the keyword difficulty metric SEO Difficulty. SEO Difficulty metric is a metric similar to a metric of other tools such as Ahref. Ubersuggest defines SEO Difficulty metric as an estimated competition in organic search with the higher the number the more competitive the keyword is.

ubersuggest keyword difficulty tool or SEO difficulty metric results

Here is what I like most about Ubersuggest’s keyword tool:

I entered ‘baby monitor’ on the search bar on Ubersuggest and it returned results of several keyword ideas related to the baby monitor keyword, along with associated keyword difficulty. They call it an SEO Difficulty metric and it is on the last column that is colored pink.

The SEO Difficulty at Ubersuggest ranges from 0 to 100 with 100 being the most difficult keyword to rank for. There are very few keywords that get this score but as you can see in the snapshot above, the ‘baby monitor‘ keyword SEO Difficulty score is 76. However, the tools also gave me a less competitive related keyword ‘baby monitor with video‘ with an SEO Difficulty score of 39.

In a recent study by Brean Dean of Backlinko, he noted that “Ubersuggest is particularly good at finding keyword ideas in the marketing, travel, and diet niches. Brian also found Ubersuggest to very good with keyword suggestions and was close or equal to other tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Sistrix.According to Brian Dean Ubersuggest generates 83.3% more keyword suggestion than Google Keyword planner.

Ubersuggest SEO

I use Ubersuggest for our keyword planning and as a primary SEO tool. We have been impressed with it at K Media and until recently when it was free, I wrote an article where I talked highly of the then free Ubersuggest SEO tool. I made fun of anyone purchasing SEMRush or Ahref’s expensive plans while Ubersuggest was free. Now it’s not entirely free. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) involves doing several tasks that will result in your page being recognized as having a higher authority in the eyes of search engines. While doing SEO planning for any post or keyword you want to rank for, you want to look at your competitors, analyze the backlinks and understand the keyword difficulty. Ubersuggest is an SEO tool does all that for you.
